Late at night on a rural highway near Leesville, Louisiana, a quiet trip turned into a nightmare. Just before 11 p.m., our client and her wife were driving to visit friends at the local military base. They had the green light as they entered the intersection, but a pickup truck carrying a father and his two sons failed to yield and made a dangerous left turn across their path.
The impact was violent. Our clients suffered serious injuries, and tragically, their dog did not survive the crash. Debris scattered across the roadway. Yet despite clear evidence at the scene, the responding officer relied on the word of the pickup driver and a so-called “witness” to issue a citation against our client for supposedly running the light.
The truth was very different.
Thankfully, our office was hired just days after the crash. We immediately began a full investigation and located surveillance footage from a nearby gas station. That video confirmed everything our client had said: she had the green light. Even more critical, the video showed that the “witness” had not seen the crash at all. They arrived only after it had already happened.
If we hadn’t been hired so quickly, that footage would have been erased. That video turned the case around. We also located a credible witness who had seen the entire crash unfold, and their account backed up our client’s story.
Armed with this evidence, we worked with law enforcement and prosecutors to get the traffic ticket dismissed. We also presented the full picture to the other driver’s insurance company, which ultimately accepted responsibility.
Our clients suffered serious physical injuries, including ankle fractures that required surgery and physical therapy, along with neck and back pain that forced them to miss work. They also endured the emotional loss of their pet. We recovered the full insurance policy limits for them, including damages related to their dog’s death.
This case shows why fast, focused legal help matters. The other driver lied, a witness made false claims, and the initial police report blamed our client. But with the right team in place and quick action to save critical evidence, justice was possible.
